This project aimed at developing a vascular plant inventory and comprehensive checklist of lesser-known forests surrounding Mahabaleshwar in Satara district of Maharashtra and BRT forests in Karnataka. The project mainly focused on a complete floristic account of Mahabaleshwar and BRT forests, identification, and recommendation of critical forest pockets rich in rare and endangered plant populations for all sites, assessing the dependency of tribal communities on forest resources under the new forest management policy and suggestions to include biologically sensitive pockets with the nearest protected areas and preserves.
